Quieting The Mind

In today’s society, we are riddled with more information than our brains can process. Often the constant overworking and overtaxing nature our lives have on us take a toll on our minds. We see depression, anxiety, stress, disconnection, and ailments related to these feelings present themselves in many people every day.

Practicing mindfulness throughout your day can significantly reduce many of these issues. Mindfulness is becoming aware of what you are thinking. This means becoming the observer to witness your thoughts. It is living in the present moment; not worrying about that task 5 minutes from now or that mistake you made in 3rd grade. Mindfulness helps us reconnect with our body and our minds so that we are not running on autopilot or allowing obsessive thoughts to activate our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight).

This practice sounds very simple, but we often find it more difficult to engage. There are many different ways that you can practice mindfulness yourself throughout your day. Meditation, prayer, intentional focus, journaling, or finding a hobby that involves focus or counting such as knitting or playing an instrument can all help with creating mindfulness and bringing your thoughts back to the present moment.

At Mandala Den, each of our practitioners works with modalities that offer support in quieting the mind and teaching you how to unbecome your thoughts, open yourself to mindfulness, and how these practices can help reduce stress and anxiety in your life.
